If a recent leak is to be believed, Naughty Dog is working on a brand-new Uncharted game that will feature longtime franchise protagonist Nathan Drake in some capacity. Uncharted helped Naughty Dog reinvent itself on the PlayStation 3, with the original trilogy of games earning a great deal of praise — Uncharted 2, especially. Uncharted quickly became one of PlayStation's premiere franchises, with spin-offs, a movie, and more released.
Naughty Dog followed up the acclaimed PS3 Uncharted trilogy with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End as a way to wrap up the story. Uncharted 4 received a standalone expansion in the form of The Lost Legacy, which put the spotlight on characters other than Nathan Drake for a change. There haven't been any major developments on the Uncharted video game front since then, but now it seems that fans suddenly have something new to look forward to in the future.
As reported by MP1st, Naughty Dog is working on a new Uncharted game that will feature Nathan Drake. While fans should take the claim with a grain of salt until an official announcement is made, it states that it's unclear if Drake will be the main playable character or have a smaller role in the game. The report does state, however, that the new Uncharted is definitively not a remake, so fans should have a brand-new adventure on the way. Whether this adventure is a prequel starring a younger Drake or a direct sequel to Uncharted 4 remains to be seen.

Lost Legacy director Shaun Escayag is reportedly directing the new Uncharted game. Previous reports indicated that a new Uncharted game was in the works at Naughty Dog since before the COVID-19 pandemic, so who knows how far long the project is in development. However, the MP1st report claims that the new Uncharted game is next in the pipeline from Naughty Dog after the studio finishes work on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is Naughty Dog's next game, with the studio planning on properly unveiling and releasing the game in 2027. Intergalactic is a sci-fi action-adventure game, so quite a departure from the studio's recent work, but what little of it that has been shown so far has looked promising.
Naughty Dog itself has not made any official statements about a new Uncharted game, but the studio has confirmed that it has multiple new Last of Us projects in the works. If the leak about Uncharted being the next game after Intergalactic is accurate, that means that Last of Us fans may be waiting an especially long time to play a new game in that critically-acclaimed series. On the bright side, there is still the third season of the Last of Us TV series on HBO to look forward to, and hopefully that can tide fans over while they wait to see what Part 3, and whatever else Naughty Dog has cooking, looks like. In the meantime, those that haven't played the Uncharted games should note that all the main games in the series are readily available to play on PS5.
