A new Minecraft add-on called AI Players can fill a single-player world with computer-controlled companions, creating the feeling of multiplayer without requiring friends or an internet connection.
Minecraft is perfectly playable alone, but multiplayer typically requires other players to join through a server, Realm, local network, or online invitation. Mojang even introduced a Friends List and peer-to-peer multiplayer for Java Edition earlier in 2026.
AI Players takes the opposite approach. Rather than making it easier for real people to join, the upcoming creation from official Minecraft partner Gamemode One populates the world with bots that behave like other players.

Gamemode One revealed AI Players in a September 8 trailer, asking what it would be like to “play with others even without an internet connection.”
The footage shows a player using a handheld device to open a “Manage Current AI Players” menu filled with different characters, skins, and multiplayer-style usernames. Individual bots can seemingly be invited into the world or banned through a moderation menu.
Once invited, the AI players appear with names such as SpookySeven2224, EngineeredClone, Kipper, and GODLYCHICKEN. Several can be active simultaneously, with the trailer showing them wandering around, interacting with each other, and gathering beside a campfire.
A promotional shot also depicts the bots mining, crafting, opening chests, fighting mobs, and exploring independently, suggesting they will do more than simply follow the real player around.
