Among them, the most powerful have often been swordsmen, whose skill with a blade and Haki allow them to face and defeat some of the greatest threats in the entire world.
For many, the most iconic swordsman in One Piece is none other than the First Mate of the Straw Hat Pirates, Roronoa Zoro. From the beginning of the series, Zoro has risen in power exponentially to become one of the strongest swordsmen in the world. However, there are many from the older generations who dwarf him in power.
In the world of One Piece, the legacy of the Roger Pirates is unparalleled. Not only were they the only ones to find the One Piece treasure, but they also had some of the most powerful Conqueror's Haki users that the world has ever seen. Among them was Silvers Rayleigh, the First Mate of the crew and someone whose legend is almost at the level of Roger himself.
Just like Zoro, Rayleigh was primarily a swordsman who utilized his blade, though his mastery of Conqueror's Haki was so great that few in the world could truly challenge him. In the recent chapters of the Elbaph Arc, Scopper, who is said to be Rayleigh's equal, was able to deal substantial damage to Imu himself, showing how powerful the Dark King truly was in his prime.
As one of the most powerful figures in the history of Wano, Oden is remembered even to this day for his unparalleled strength, which allowed him to effortlessly damage Kaido in his dragon form and nearly kill him. Though some fans put Zoro above Oden, his showing against Kaido alone puts him as the superior swordsman.
Although Zoro unlocked Conqueror's Haki during the Wano Arc, he still lacks sufficient control over this power, whereas Oden was able to utilize his own so well that he almost killed the World's Strongest Creature and even matched Scopper during the fight against the Roger Pirates. Plus, his swords, Enma and Ame no Habakiri, are Haki-sinks and are immensely strong.
Out of the many insane reveals made in the Elbaph Arc, one of the biggest was the confirmation of Shanks having a twin, who ended up being the new Supreme Commander of the Gods' Knights: St. Figarland Shamrock. Very little is known about Shamrock's strength, but most believe him to be an equal to Shanks, if not more powerful.
Similarly, Shamrock uses a sword as his primary means of fighting. Due to his sword having eaten the Mythical Zoan Cerberus Fruit, as well as the fact that he may be equal to Shanks in strength, Shamrock can be considered a swordsman even stronger than Zoro.
