Hunter x Hunter is one of the most wildly successful shonen series of all time. Having begun its run in 1998 by Yoshihiro Togashi, the series has since been going strong for almost three decades, with no sign of ending anytime soon. Despite the ongoing release of Hunter x Hunter, we are still faced with one major issue: hiatuses. Over the last two decades, Togashi has been dealing with health issues that greatly impact his work. As such, the manga recently went on a break once more, following the release of Hunter x Hunter chapter 420 on September 8, 2026.
Now, we are eagerly looking forward to the return of Hunter x Hunter chapter 421. While we don't have a return date yet, we anticipate Chapter 421 to focus on Prince Tserriednich and his endeavors to escape the grip of First Prince Benjamin. Other plotlines could also be tackled in the upcoming chapter.
Hunter x Hunter chapter 420 was an exciting ride. That chapter, titled “Encounter,” was released on September 8 in WSJ Issue #41, and continued to follow Prince Tserriednich. Tserriednich has played a pivotal role in the second half of the latest batch of chapters. After seemingly being apprehended in his room by his older brother, Prince Benjamin, he tricked everyone and managed to escape. Prince Benjamin attempted to kill Tserriednich, and while he failed, Benjamin and everyone around him believed he succeeded. Tserriednich escaped a guaranteed death by using his overpowered ability, Parallel Future, which allowed him to see the future and fake his death.
Hunter x Hunter Chapter 420 ended after Tserriednich escaped far enough and came into contact with Hisoka. Barely escaping with his life once more, Tserriednich continues forward, but his ability is running low on fuel. It is clear that he needs to recharge, but to achieve that, he has to reach a safe spot.
The upcoming Hunter x Hunter Chapter 421 could, as such, keep the focus right on him. Tserriednich’s plan has just begun, and we don’t know where exactly he is headed, but based on his current whereabouts and the amount of energy he has left, it has to be somewhere close by, likely on Tier 2 of the Black Whale. He must have a trusted ally nearby that can keep him safe until Benjamin lowers his guard for good.

Hunter x Hunter Chapter 421 will also likely show him improving his Parallel Future, and under pressure, he will likely grow and develop at an outstanding rate. In chapter 421, Tserriednich could reach this desired destination, and there, he will be able to recharge and rest while awaiting his next contribution to the story.
Hunter x Hunter Chapter 421 is expected to largely focus on Fourth Prince, Tserriednich, as he has been the highlight for the last couple of chapters. However, it isn't a guarantee that he will return in chapter 421. Even if he is central to the chapter, Togashi is likely also going to pan out the focus on other plot lines currently ongoing and intertwining in the Succession Contest arc. Because of how many plot lines are currently being written, it's hard to anticipate what Togashi will follow up on next. Since this batch of chapters has focused on Kurapika and Tserriednich, we could see some attention brought back to Halkenburg, who has been one of the most captivating characters of this arc. If there is one person who is intent on stopping Benjamin's raid, it's definitely him.
