PC gaming’s most popular storefront is set to shatter its own revenue records this year, with new forecast data showing that players are spending more money than ever on games this year.
According to new estimate figures from Alinea Analytics, Steam is on track to crack over $20 billion in revenue this year alone, with the Valve-owned game marketplace having already raked in $15 billion in the first 8 months of the year. Doing so means it would clear its previous record-setting year in 2025, when the storefront generated $19.9 billion in revenue.
The boost in sales means the estimated revenue figures show a 15% increase year-on-year, meaning PC gamers are spending more and more on titles. With fan support for companies like Sony and Xbox at an all-time low due to mass layoffs and unpopular decisions about disc-based gaming, more players might end up turning to PC as the master race after all. Steam hasn't released any official figures or forecasts.
Of course, Steam’s remarkable figures are completely sustained by massive gaming hits in 2026, including Forza Horizon 6, Crimson Desert and Resident Evil Requiem. Those games occupy the top 3 spots in terms of gross revenue generated, all exceeding an estimated $200 million each. In fourth and fifth place, sequels are the name of the game, with Slay the Spire 2 and Subnautica 2 continuing to enthrall players.
One new IP has also gained massive traction on Steam this year, too—Meccha Chameleon, a game which is a spin on the Prop Hunt game mode from Counter-Strike and tasks players with blending into a variety of environments as unassuming in-world objects. Costing only $5.99, countless players have picked it up and loved it, with over 40,000 reviews alone on Steam indicating a “Very Positive” impression.
The data also shows that Steam has added more games than ever before this year, with around 19,000 new titles launching on the platform between January and August 2026. That figure easily clears 2024’s total, and is a hair’s breadth away from surpassing last year’s total number of games released.

Of course, not all games are diamonds—there’s been a few flops and titles that have elicited massive fan criticism. Most recently, Marvel’s Wolverine has been embroiled in a “fart trail” scandal that spawned on X and has tarnished the opening weeks of the game’s release. Fans revolted against the game’s always-on route assist, which developer Insomniac said was part of Wolverine’s super olfactory powers. But that didn’t stop the game from raking in the cash.
