Discord isn’t just another chatting app, it’s a focal point of communication for numerous communities, particularly those with a gaming-oriented slant. It’s the place many of us go to talk with our friends, meet new ones, and debate power levels. That’s why it’s so infuriating, then, when Discord suddenly goes down, and it’s even more infuriating when nobody can seem to figure out why it’s happening.

Reports are coming in from around the world of seemingly randomized Discord outages, with some users able to access services as normal, while others can’t even open the Discord desktop app. Users across social media have already started lodging complaints, with their chats and voice calls dropping out in the middle of conversations.

According to Discord’s official status page, the cause of the issue has already been identified at the time of writing, and the staff are working on fixing it, though it doesn’t say what the actual cause of the issue is, nor how long it’ll be before normal service is restored.

In many cases, a Discord outage usually has some kind of pattern or tell, such as specifically affecting either the desktop or mobile apps, only affecting certain regions, or just taking down the entire service all at once. However, this particular outage is proving tricky just because of how random it seems to be. Users are reporting inability to access the desktop app while the mobile app still works fine or vice versa, and there doesn’t seem to be any particular centrality to the outages either, with reports ranging from the United States to the United Kingdom.

On the official Discord Support profile on X, formerly Twitter, Discord staff said, “We're aware of an issue that is interfering with connection to Discord. Our team is working on a fix, and we should hopefully be fully back up and running soon.” This is followed by a link to a Discord status page which, as of writing, says that the cause of the outage has been identified, and that staff have applied a potential fix and are monitoring to see if it sticks.
