No Rest for the Wicked - the upcoming Action RPG from Ori developer Moon Studios - has been delayed into next year. Originally intended to release into version 1.0 in October, it will instead launch in March of 2027.
This news came via a social media post from a sudden statement posted to official No Rest from the Wicked social media accounts. This statement reads as follows:
"The honest truth is that we're a small team, and we're holding our games to a standard we won't compromise on. We're close, but close isn't good enough for our full 1.O launch. The extra time will help us improve performance, tighten the class system, and polish the whole game to the standard you all deserve. We'd rather take a few more months than ship something that we know isn't quite perfect yet."
While this is surely sad news for the early adopters of No Rest for the Wicked, there is a silver lining. A new open beta test is scheduled for December, which should allow a new wave of curious onlookers a chance to check out ahead of its new release date.
In addition, anyone who buys the game before January 2027 will receive founders rewards in-game once it launches properly. PlayStation pre-orders open up in January, at which point players on that platform will get around two months to get those same rewards.
In a video released to the Moon Studios YouTube channel, studio founder Thomas Mahler offered additional insight into the situation. He describes the "mad dash" to add more content such as the class system this year. As a result, it seems as though the team didn't feel the game was ready for its scheduled release.
Ah well, although this delay does mean No Rest for the Wicked is leaping away from the nightmarish release calendar coming up this year. By dodging October it avoids clashing up against Gears of War: E-Day, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and many more cool looking games. Maybe it'll be for the best?
