The Epic Games Store has officially announced its October 1 giveaway, which will feature two titles, including the critically acclaimed visual novel Buried Stars. The newly revealed promotion is worth just under $70, making it one of the Epic Games Store's most valuable giveaways of 2026.
Between September 17 and 24, Epic gave away detective adventure Mindcop and roguelite Shogun Showdown. That promotion has now ended, replaced by a dual offer featuring Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles and Mechabellum. As soon as the new giveaway went live, Epic also revealed the lineup for the following promotion, which is scheduled to begin on October 1.
In addition to Buried Stars, the first Epic Games Store giveaway for October 2026 features the year-old System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. Both will be available to claim for the usual seven-day period, until October 8 at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET / 5 p.m. CET.

Buried Stars is a narrative-driven mystery adventure that casts players as Do-yoon Han, one of several contestants trapped inside a collapsed television studio after an accident interrupts the live broadcast of a survival-audition show. Although much of the experience unfolds through visual-novel-style dialogue, progression centers on gathering information and deciding how to use it as part of an overarching investigation. Players periodically search the ruined studio for clues, examine messages and posts on the fictional social network Phater, and collect keywords that can later be raised as conversation topics with the other survivors. Buried Stars has an 81 average score and 80% recommendation rate on OpenCritic, as well as over 200 "Mostly Positive" reviews on Steam.
Buried Stars and the System Shock 2 remaster are typically priced at $39.99 and $29.99, respectively, giving the upcoming giveaway a combined value of $69.98. That makes it the platform's most valuable weekly promotion since the Epic Game Store gave away roughly $80 worth of mystery games in late May 2026.
