Latest reports from Oricon for sales up to August 3 indicate that One Piece's overall manga sales for the year 2026 are at around 3,135,000 sales. For context, this is sales over 2 volumes 114 and 115. 2026 is already more than halfway over. With that in mind, it is practically impossible for any other series now to come around and steal this title from it. For what it's worth, it could already be said that One Piece has secured its position as 2026's best-selling manga.
One Piece has absolutely dominated this year, with over 3 million sales already, with more volume releases planned. Its success has dwarfed every other competitor, but that's not to say that other series have not been doing incredibly well this year. In fact, some of these sales are just as impressive with added context.
The second-highest-selling manga as of August 2026 in Japan is Jujutsu Kaisen. Jujutsu Kaisen is currently at 1,821,587 sales based on new Oricon reports. While that might seem unimpressive when compared to One Piece, more context completely changes how impressive this number is. Jujutsu Kaisen by Gege Akutami released its final volume, Volume 30, all the way back in December 2024. In other words, backlog sales from two years ago for Jujutsu Kaisen have granted it the second-highest sales in the entirety of Japan. This huge sales boost, of course, can be attributed to the release of its new anime installment, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game. For now, Jujutsu Kaisen sales should slow back down, but 2027 will make for another boost when Season 4 makes its return.
The number 3 highest-selling manga in Japan this year is Blue Lock. Blue Lock has been the most popular sports manga in recent years. Its sales have always been impressive, and that is despite its underwhelming anime adaptation. Blue Lock currently sits at 1,792,333 sales, and it is a series unlikely to slow down anytime soon. After all, it was also 2023's best-selling manga of the year, which goes to show its massive impact with no outside support. Since JJK has slowed down, Blue Lock is expected to take the #2 spot soon.
The fourth best-selling manga is Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, with 1,755,000 sales. Just like Jujutsu Kaisen, this number is incredibly impressive when keeping in mind that Frieren has not had any new volume releases in a while. Unlike Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren is not over, but it has been on hiatus since October 14, 2025. Its final Volume 15 was released on December 18, 2025, and yet it is still going strong. Just like Jujutsu Kaisen, this grand success can be traced back to its new anime release. Two years after the release of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 1 by Madhouse Studio, the series made a grand return in January 2026 with Season 2. The season was short, but it was a massive hit.
