While we can waste hours arguing over the console's greatest masterpieces, the rarest PS2 games make for a more interesting discussion, especially since data exists that provides a general overview of which releases actually qualify. Which PS2 game costs a fortune?
A release can become rare for many reasons, but most involve a limited run that came and went without many people noticing at the time. While this could mean a game flopped in North America, publishers also love to release collector's editions that eventually become nearly impossible to track down. Using PriceCharting, let's count down the most expensive PS2 games, a ranking that changes pretty frequently.

As something rises in value, so does the number of high-quality reproductions that try to pass for it. While not as common as, say, GBA cartridges, PS2 fakes have infiltrated the market, and customers should be careful before dropping significant cash on that copy of Rule of Rose you found in a retro gaming store.

Kicking things off with a relatively forgotten Gundam game that, for some reason, decided not to advertise its franchise right on the box. MS Saga: A New Dawn never really had much of a chance to catch on in North America. Gundam wasn't really huge, and a turn-based RPG wasn't going to attract casual players who aren't big on the series. The game's 2006 debut meant it arrived too late in the PS2's lifespan, so Bandai printed relatively few copies for the Western market.
