Injustice 3 Announcement More Likely After New Playtest Listing

Injustice 3 is quietly becoming one of the industry's biggest open secrets at this point. NetherRealm has previously stated that it's working on other things besides the next main Mortal Kombat games, and the voice actors behind Injustice's take on Superman and Green Lantern have also previously outright claimed to be working on Injustice 3 as well.

Well, now we've got even more proof that it's in development, if you even need it at this point. First spotted by Event Hubs, a now deleted listing for a playtest of a "AAA fighting game" that is also described as a "major 2D fighting game" was briefly posted over the weekend. No game names were mentioned, obviously, but there are some hints that this is the fabled Injustice 3.

For starters, every AAA fighting game that's currently in the works right now is 3D, those being Sega's Virtua Fighter Crossroads and Koei Tecmo's Dead or Alive 7. We also know that Melty Blood Twi-Lumina is in development as well, but it's a series you can't really describe as "AAA" or "major." That means this mystery playtest is for a game that hasn't been announced yet.

However, the biggest clue is the location in which the playtest was held, that being Culver City in California. While NetherRealm itself is based in Chicago, Illinois, it's worth noting that Warner Bros. Discovery has its headquarters in Culver City as well, and that seems a little bit more than just coincidence.

So, with all of these things in mind, along with the fact that the playtest was in the United States, we're trying to think of an unannounced AAA 2D fighting game with a Western developer that is having a playtest in not only the same state that Warner Bros. is based in, but the same city that Warner Bros. Discovery calls home. Yeah, I'm thinking it's Injustice 3.
