It didn't take long for Metroid fans to start name-dropping the talented Spanish developer MercurySteam after the official reveal of Metroid Ravenous.
However, Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed the studio behind this game just yet. Eurogamer even went to the extent of reaching out to Nintendo in hopes of a proper statement, but was met with the usual silence.
Now, though, MercurySteam has acknowledged the game's official reveal via social media. While there's no direct confirmation about the team's involvement in this new game, after months of inactivity on its social account, it's now reposted Nintendo's official Metroid Ravenous announcement and attached are a few emoji. As you can see, it's a ninja and a love heart emoji:
The ninja emoji in the social post appears to be a reference to the mysterious group of assassins, who ambush Samus in the new game, and it's up to her to "seek revenge" and literally devour her foes. By the looks of it, it's shaping up to be Samus' most badass adventure yet.
If you've played MercurySteam's previous (and outstanding) Metroid title, Metroid Dread, the team's involvement with this latest game probably won't be a surprise. This will be MercurySteam's third Metroid game. It originally started with Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3DS, which was released in 2017.
