Over the years, Jujutsu Kaisen has seen the rise and fall of many powerful characters, and among them, the likes of Gojo and Sukuna have always reigned supreme at the very top. Gojo Satoru was the strongest modern sorcerer and perhaps the face of the entire franchise, and Ryomen Sukuna was the greatest antagonist in the series and the strongest sorcerer in the history of the world. Together, these two had a monopoly on the title of strongest, but the Shinjuku Showdown arc of JJK saw the fall of both. Now, Yuji Itadori has risen as the new strongest, and JJK Modulo has given him enough power to make him a God.
Yuji Itadori becoming akin to a God is a concept that Gege Akutami himself set up in the Culling Game Arc. Following the events of the Shibuya Arc, where Yuji Itadori fought against Choso, the two finally started growing closer, especially as Choso realized that they were, in a way, brothers. In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 139, published in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12 on February 22, 2021, Gege Akutami showed us Yuji's battle against Yuta Okkotsu, but before that, the two fought against various Cursed Spirits. It is at this point that Choso acknowledges Yuji's growth in terms of Cursed Energy manipulation and labels him a Demon God. Yuji's potential is directly compared to that of a God of Jujutsu, and that goes to show that he was always in the same category as the likes of Sukuna and Gojo.
“He's now a Demon God! And he still isn't fully recovered! As impressive as ever, little brother!” — Choso to Yuji, JJK Chapter #139
In fact, even before the Culling Game arc, Gege Akutami had the strongest modern sorcerer, Gojo Satoru, openly acknowledge that Yuji had the potential to one day rival him. In the Shinjuku showdown arc, Uraume also stated quite clearly that Yuji's potential was the same as Ryomen Sukuna's. Given that both Gojo and Sukuna are Gods of Jujutsu, it makes perfect sense for Yuji Itadori to rise as the next God of Jujutsu as well. This was clearly shown to us by Gege Akutami in the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel serialization, called JJK Modulo. In the new Modulo series, Gege Akutami showed Yuji Itadori operating on a completely different level and highlighted him as the official strongest of the new era. Taking into consideration all the powers that Yuji had attained by this time and many others that he likely did not even show us, Yuji Itadori is officially the greatest God of Jujutsu that we have seen in the entire story.
Yuji Itadori is quite easily one of the strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, and all of this comes down to his special birth, which was concocted by Kenjaku. Yuji was made so that he could be a perfect vessel for Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, to reincarnate into. Being Sukuna's vessel bathed him in the same Cursed Energy as Sukuna's. With all things put together, his potential reached the same level as the King of Curses.
Before the Shinjuku Showdown arc, Yuji Itadori also consumed Death Paintings 5 to 9, and this gave him access to Blood Manipulation. At the same time, this also meant that Yuji's body became different. Gege Akutami himself confirms that Yuji Itadori's aging has slowed down dramatically, and that he will continue to live for at least 300 more years. He now exists as part human and part cursed spirit, making him a unique being who has seen the best of both worlds.
"Upon absorbing the Cursed Wombs, he became a hybrid between a curse and a human, which caused his aging to slow down to an extreme degree" — Gege Akutami explains Yuji's lifespan, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Volume #3 Notes
Yuji has also fully mastered Blood Manipulation by the time of the Modulo era. This was shown to us officially in JJK Modulo Chapter 19, which was released on January 26, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #9. Yuji was also able to use Blood Manipulation to subdue an entire building full of Simurians and sorcerers effortlessly. He also has access to Shrine, which he first awakened in the battle against Ryomen Sukuna in JJK chapter 257, which was officially released on April 22, 2024. Back then, his control over Shrine was rudimentary, but by adulthood, Yuji Itadori has fully mastered Shrine and taken it even beyond the levels that Ryomen Sukuna showed. In JJK Modulo chapter 20, which was released on February 2, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump issue 10, Yuji Itadori used two casual Dismantles that could almost level an entire town. Ryomen Sukuna, the original user of this technique, never showed this level of attack potency with his own Shrine.
