A Grand Theft Auto 6 fan mapping project is nearly finished after years of work, and shows just how massive the state of Leonida is going to be.
Even though Rockstar Games has shared a lot more information with us about GTA 6 over the past week or so, there’s still plenty that we don’t know about the world’s most-anticipated game. Chief among them is what GTA 6’s map is going to look like, as we’ve still not seen even a glimpse of how Leonida is officially mapped out.
GTA fans being as dedicated as they are, though, means that an unofficial mapping project has been trying to pin down Leonida ever since the first trailer was released. Over time, the mapping project has come a really long way, and a near-finalised version of the project has just been shared that gives us our best idea yet of GTA 6’s map.
Over on Twitter, GTA insider SynthPotato shared a near-finalised version of the Yanis mapping project for GTA 6. While the project’s official website hasn’t been updated just yet, the nearly complete version of the map was highlighted on Discord, so it seems that the team is close to pushing it live.
As you can see from the image, Leonida looks to be absolutely huge, from the docks of Leonida Keys all the way up to Ambrosia. It’s designed in a similar way to GTA 5’s map, with larger city areas mixed in with plenty of grasslands and wildlife, but with much more density and variety than Los Santos.
Here’s the point where I remind you that all of this was done through screenshots and trailer footage of GTA 6. It’s truly incredible what Rockstar fans can do.
The only thing that seems to be a little uncertain right now is the airport, which SynthPotato points out is “nearly half the size of the city itself”. I imagine that won’t be the case in the final game but, considering how iconic GTA airports end up being, I don’t think any of us would be complaining if that is the case.
Of course, if you’ve been keeping up with GTA 6 over the past few weeks, you’ll know that the map was seemingly leaked by Cyberleek as one of the first things the group revealed. Impressively, the mapping project has matched that leak for quite some time, so they’ve clearly been spot on for quite some time now.
