The crime show is a spinoff of Ritchie's 2019 movie, also titled The Gentlemen, which follows Matthew McConaughey's Mickey Pearson as he tries to sell off his marijuana business. Netflix gave The Gentlemen a major vote of confidence by confirming a third season ahead of its Season 2 premiere. That makes the arrival of The Gentlemen Season 2, which has just dropped today (August 3) in its entirety, particularly significant for fans who have been waiting to see what happens after Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass establish themselves in Britain's criminal underworld.
The Gentlemen Season 2 picks up roughly a year after Eddie inherits his father's enormous estate and discovers that it was actually part of a sprawling criminal empire. What started as an unwanted inheritance gradually evolved Eddie into a surprisingly capable player, and the new season sees him much more willing to embrace that side of him. In Season 2, rather than just protecting the Horniman estate, Eddie and Susie's ambitions have grown considerably, with the pair looking to expand their operation beyond England and into Italy.
The new season moves much of the action toward the Italian lakes, introducing new criminal figures like Marco Moretti and Cico Maldini, powerful politicians, and a major deal in Italian organized crime. Susie's relationship with her father Bobby Glass is also still a central part of the story in The Gentlemen's sophomore season. Early reviews suggest Season 2 retains much of the strange, stylish, and violent energy that made Season 1 such a hit; The Guardian has praised its combination of gritty action, eccentric characters, visual flair, and absurd humor, which feels very on-brand for a Guy Ritchie production, though did criticize its pacing.
The biggest piece of news surrounding The Gentlemen Season 2, however, is that Netflix has already confirmed what's happening with the story next. The streamer renewed the crime drama for Season 3 in August 2024, two years before the second season premiered, making it clear that Eddie and Susie's criminal ambitions aren't going to end with these eight episodes. The renewal was announced alongside the Season 2 trailer, with Guy Ritchie also returning for the next chapter.
Rather than functioning as a potential final chapter for Eddie and Susie, the new season can push their world forward with the knowledge that more episodes are coming. Netflix has already committed to another eight episodes of The Gentlemen, so what takes place during their intentional criminal world in Season 2 won't be the end of their road for Theo James and Kaya Scodelario's beloved characters.
