Atelier Karia’s developers are working as “quickly as possible” to add a weight-gain system that changes how its anime girl heroine looks after eating, following overwhelming support from fans.
Back in July, Koei Tecmo released a survey asking fans for feedback on several potential features for Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories.
Among the ideas was a weight-gain mechanic that would change Karia’s appearance depending on her eating and snacking habits.
The devs even showed off artwork that featured a much plumper, rounder version of the game’s leading anime girl to illustrate what they had in mind. However, the devs didn’t expect to see the sheer volume of fans that approved of their new chunky aspirations.
During an interview published on September 16, Producer Junzo Hosoi said just under 75% of all respondents wanted the body changes added to Atelier Karia. However, support was even higher among players answering the survey in English.
“Among English-speaking respondents in particular, close to 90% answered with great enthusiasm that they absolutely wanted it included,” Hosoi said. “That really surprised us.”
The survey was conducted across Japan, Asia, North America, and Europe. According to Hosoi, players in every region generally supported the proposed feature, but North American fans showed the greatest enthusiasm.
Director Daiki Fukui confirmed that the development team had actually prepared for the survey’s potential outcomes, with the team working hard to make fans’ chunky anime girl dreams a reality.
