Diablo 4 fans can breathe a sigh of relief after Blizzard shared a promising update regarding the future of the game, even with Diablo 5 looming large in the coming years.
Game director Brent Gibson shared in a new interview (via GamesRadar+) that Blizzard will keep Diablo 4 alive, saying: “We are planning on supporting seasons as long as the community continues to show up for D4.” The support will be similar to that of Diablo 2 and Diablo 3, which still attract tens of thousands of players every month. Gibson said: “As long as you're showing up, we’re going to continue to be making content."
In older Diablo titles, it’s not new content coming per se, but a cyclical rotation of previous seasonal content that repeats for fans to pick up—ensuring even new players can still access the widest range of in-game content. It looks like Diablo 4 will be going the same way.
The news will come as a huge weight off of Diablo 4 players’ shoulders, who feared all the time and money they’d sunk into the sprawling RPG would be for naught when Diablo 5 launches, tentatively set for release in 2029. The announcement of a new mainline Diablo game stunned fans, with Blizzard usually having a decade or more between titles.
A reveal trailer for Diablo 5 showcased Sanctuary completely destroyed by the titular Lord of Hatred, Diablo, and his forces of Hell. The game will feature more classes available at launch than any other post-DLC Diablo game, and Blizzard teased three classes: the Demon Hunter and Monk returning from previous entries, while the Plague Knight—a heavily armored warrior who spreads diseases—makes its debut.

Seasonal content for Diablo 4 has been dipping into nostalgia recently, with a recent anniversary event celebrating the game’s storied history getting derailed by log-in errors. Season 15, titled “Season of Hell’s Legacy” also takes fans way back to the beginning, essentially remaking major dungeons from Diablo and Diablo II, complete with battles against Baal, Mephisto and Diablo himself. Famed character Deckard Cain also returns as the season’s narrator, sure to trigger waves of nostalgia in all long-time Diablo fans.
