League of Legends Classic patch 5 introduces another five new champions to the old-school version of the Riot MOBA, with some “ass” spells.

It's time to take a look at League of Legends Classic patch 5, and here to walk us through all the new champions debuting in Riot's old MOBA is Game Designer David 'Phreak' Turley. We've got five additional characters joining the lineup this time, and Phreak notes that he's now "in charge of champion release quality, so if there are major issues, I'm accountable." That makes him the ideal person to detail what we can expect from these throwback incarnations of Aatrox, Irelia, Karma, Quinn, and Caitlyn, all of which "have some pretty meaningful level of rework going on" from their modern forms.

Starting up top, we have a full rework (or un-rework, if you prefer) for Aatrox. This takes the Darkin Blade back to how he was when he first arrived in League of Legends back in the day. His passive causes his abilities to self-damage and fill a Blood Well, boosting his attack speed, and when he would die this is drained to revive him (on a cooldown) with health based on how much blood it contains. Dark Flight has Aatrox fly up and then crash down to deal damage and knock opponents up in a circle.

Blood Thirst heals Aatrox every three attacks, while Blood Price deals bonus damage instead - you'll have to toggle between them, so can only have one active at a time. If you need some guidance, Phreak suggests swapping at around the 50% health mark. Blades of Torment is a heavy triangle-shaped nuke that damages and slows, while his ultimate Massacre deals damage to all nearby enemy champions, granting temporary bonus attack speed and range.

Also completely different is Irelia. Ionian Fervor gives her Tenacity for each enemy champ that's nearby. Bladesurge dashes to an enemy dealing damage, resetting the cooldown and half the mana cost upon a kill. Phreak notes that this doesn't get the bonus damage against minions it does in the modern game, so you can't easily rely on resets with just a single-point investment. It does, however, come with a full 100% AD ratio, more than it does in 2026.

Hiten Style provides on-hit heals passively, and you can activate it to gain true damage and additional healing. Equilibrium Strike damages and slows an enemy, unless their health percentage is higher or equal to that of Irelia, in which case it'll stun them instead of the slow. Irelia's ultimate, Transcendent Blades, gives her four spirit blades that act as line nukes that siphon life from their victims to heal her.

Continuing the full reworks, we have Karma. Inner Flame awards her bonus ability power based on the amount of missing health she has. Her ultimate, Karma, which is the one piece that still survives today, starts available from level one and will empower her next ability used to grant it a bonus effect. Unlike nowadays, those benefits scale with the individual skill ranks, not the level of Karma itself. Heavenly Wave deals magic damage in a cone ahead of Karma, and if you use Mantra it'll heal any allies in the area based on their missing health percentage. Soul Shield summons a protective shield on Karma or a teammate, with radiating damage if you apply Mantra to it.

Spirit Bond tethers Karma to another unit, giving her and allies a movespeed bonus, while enemies get a slow. The connecting beam damages and slows enemies it hits, and Mantra doubles the effect of all these bonuses. "This is a very awkward skill to use," Phreak notes, "I would expect Karma's win rate to be quite low on launch from the learning curve." He goes so far as to call it "one of the worst-designed spells" Riot ever released, laughing as he apologizes to the developer responsible. "I'm sorry, this spell is ass. But I think the kit is cool."
