Netflix has just released its top 10 global rankings for the week starting August 24 and ending August 30, and to no one's surprise, the Grand Theft Auto 6 Extended Look video performed incredibly well. According to Netflix's data, the Grand Theft Auto 6 Extended Look trailer brought in a total of 31.1 million views, and earned the number one spot on Netflix's top 10 movies of the week list.
Making its debut as a Netflix exclusive on August 27 at 3pm ET, the Grand Theft Auto 6 Extended Look trailer finally gave fans their first look at the long-awaited open world sequel's gameplay. All captured on a base model PS5, the GTA 6 Extended Look showed off around 27 minutes of in-engine footage, teasing a handful of story missions, showcasing an assortment of side activities, and answering a plethora of questions fans had been dying to know since long before the game's official announcement back in December 2023. While the GTA 6 Extended Look was eventually published in full on YouTube, for six hours, the only way to watch the entire showcase through official means was via Netflix.
It seems that exclusivity may have paid off for Netflix. In a recent press release (via IGN), Netflix has confirmed that the Grand Theft Auto 6 Extended Look video was the number one English language movie on the streaming service for the week beginning August 24 and ending August 30. In that window, the first GTA 6 gameplay reveal brought in 31.1 million views, with a total of 14 million hours watched. This is no small feat given that the exclusive first-look debuted halfway through the data collection period. Netflix's official press release also states that the GTA 6 Extended Look achieved the number one spot in "87 of the 93 countries tracked globally."

The number two spot was taken by The Whisper Man, a Netflix crime thriller directed by James Ashcroft and starring Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan. The Whisper Man debuted on Netflix on August 28 and managed to bring in an impressive 23.2 million views in just two days, with a total of 44.1 million hours watched. The critically-panned The Last House took the number three spot last week, albeit with a much lower view count of 5.8 million.
The Grand Theft Auto 6 Extended Look showcase also managed to greatly outshine hugely popular movies like Shrek and KPop Demon Hunters, though the latter has remained in the Netflix top 10 for 63 consecutive weeks, and still managed to bring in 2.9 million views last week. Don't Say Good Luck, The Heat, 72 Hours, 13 Minutes, and 2012 all also made it onto Netflix's top 10 English language movies list last week.
When Netflix first announced it would be hosting an exclusive GTA 6 showcase, many expressed their disappointment, believing that it was unfair publisher Take-Two Interactive was locking such a long-awaited reveal behind a paywall. The official reasoning behind the decision to initially release the showcase exclusively on Netflix is still unknown.
