The Early Axes is arguably the best early game weapon in Valheim thanks to its fast attack speed and high damage output. These axes are craftable, but to make them, you need to find two special crafting materials: the Curious Axe Head, and the Mysterious Axe Head. Both are found randomly in any Meadows biome, but their drop rates are pretty low.
If you want to get the Early Axes in Valheim without leaving your first island, here's a tip on how to find these two axe heads, as well as a map seed that contains both of them in positions relatively close to the starting area.
These two axe heads spawn in very specific versions of two different abandoned houses in the Meadows biome:
They aren't guaranteed to spawn in these buildings, so if you're planning on searching your own world, you might not find an axe head until much later (unless you get very lucky, of course).
It's worth noting that all Meadows biomes across your Valheim world have a chance to have the right buildings that contain an axe head. If you're really lucky, you might find these close to your original spawn location. If not, then you'll have to map out your entire world. It's a real needle-in-a-haystack situation, but if you don't mind cheesing things a bit, you can simply keep making new worlds and search your starting island.
I spent a few hours generating new worlds in hopes of finding one with Curious and Mysterious Axe Heads close to spawn, and I was lucky enough to end up with this one.
Head northwest to find a ruined tower containing a chest with a Curious Axe Head. You'll know you're near once you find the ruins of what appears to be a fenced animal pen. Meanwhile, if you head southeast, you'll find an A-shaped hovel by the edge of a treeline. There's a Mysterious Axe Head in the chest inside.
Once you have both the rare axe heads, all that's left to do is go to a covered Workbench and craft the Early Axes. You'll also need 4 Wood, which is easy enough to get.
