When Dragon Ball Super began after the franchise's years-long hiatus, it did so by introducing the most powerful character fans had ever seen. This was Beerus, whose strength was leagues above even Goku's Super Saiyan 3 state, requiring the Saiyan to unlock yet another new form to even catch a glimpse of the Ki the Destroyer was using.
Even now, the main characters still haven't reached Beerus's power level, despite unlocking many strong new forms after their first encounter. This is because Beerus is one of the 12 Gods of Destruction of the Dragon Ball multiverse whose strength is so great that none can challenge them. However, Season 2 of the anime is set to reveal a brand-new Destroyer who may have a chance.
Dragon Ball Super went on a lengthy hiatus back in 2018, leaving fans on a high note at the end of the Tournament of Power. Despite the Broly film making headlines as one of the best that the anime industry has ever seen, it still failed to reveal any information about the anime's return. However, despite this obstacle, the manga continued with many fresh story arcs.
Goku had once again left everyone in the dust during the tournament by unlocking his Ultra Instinct transformation, which was far stronger than even Super Saiyan Blue. This proved to be quite a blow for Vegeta fans, as the Prince would try to awaken this transformation for himself but ultimately fail due to how antithetical the technique was to his personality.
This laid the groundwork for one of the most impactful story decisions in all of Dragon Ball, in which Vegeta chose to reach the highest levels of power in his own way rather than following Goku or further compounding the same Super Saiyan forms. Coincidentally, this was when Beerus told him of a secret technique used by the Gods that could help him achieve this. He would train Vegeta in the ways of a Destroyer, sharing the Energy of Destruction and instructing him in the use of the Hakai.
Vegeta proved to be a prodigious student, as he executed all of Beerus's teachings and techniques effortlessly, which eventually earned him the signature golden earring worn by all Gods of Destruction. This not only showed that his strength had increased dramatically, but also that he had been acknowledged as being on a Destroyer's level by the strongest Destroyer of them all. Vegeta utilized his immense new power in the Granolah Arc, where he finally awakened his own Ultimate form: Ultra Ego.
In the arc bearing his name, Granolah proved to be one of the strongest foes that the heroes had ever faced. This was because of the wish he made using the Cerealian Dragon Balls, since they made him the strongest being in Universe 7 in exchange for much of his remaining lifespan. With this new strength, Granolah effortlessly beat Ultra Instinct Goku.
With Vegeta's strongest form at the time being Super Saiyan Blue Evolved, fans expected to see a swift and terrible end for the Saiyan Prince. However, what they got changed the trajectory of the series, as Vegeta revealed the results of his training with Beerus when he brought forth his Ultra Ego Ultimate state for the first time.
