The concept of Demon Kings has existed in the world of One Piece for quite a long time and was first brought forward with the release of One Piece Film Red through Tot Musica. Eiichiro Oda wrote Tot Musica as the Demon King of Songs, created by the negative thoughts of the people of the One Piece world. This Demon King was incredibly powerful, strong enough to destroy entire countries and threaten the world itself. Strong as Tot Musica was, this Demon King of the One Piece world was, unfortunately, not entirely canon.
That said, with the release of One Piece Film Red, Eiichiro Oda also confirmed that the One Piece world has a Demon King like Tot Musica that he intends to draw in the manga. Now, four years later, Eiichiro Oda has officially introduced this Demon King to us through Nerona Imu, the King of the entire world and the user of the Akuma no Mi, or The Devil’s Fruit.
When One Piece Film Red was first released, Eiichiro Oda delivered a ton of exciting lore pertaining to the Blue Planet to us. For those who do not know, the Blue Planet is the official name of the One Piece planet on which the story takes place, as confirmed by Eiichiro Oda himself. On this Blue Planet, there exists a Demon King, and this was confirmed by Eiichiro Oda himself following the release of Film Red in 2022. As Film Red was airing in theaters, a special voice commentary by Eiichiro Oda was aired with it. This type of special commentary could only be heard in Japan, given that it is the parent country of One Piece.

In the special commentary, which was held with Goro Taniguchi, the director of the Film Red, Eiichiro Oda confirmed that in the world of One Piece, there exists a being just like Tot Musica, the Demon King of Songs. This being's existence in the manga was confirmed by the creator. He also stated that at that time, he had not drawn this special demonic entity yet. However, in One Piece Chapter 1179, which was released on April 5, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #19, this Demon King entity was unveiled to us for the very first time. One Piece Chapter 1179 unveiled Imu's Akuma no Mi, or The Devil's Fruit, and this fruit allows him to transform into the demon itself. Given that Imu is the official King of the World and the founder of the World Government, he is the Demon King that Oda foreshadowed long ago with the release of One Piece Film Red.
