Frieza may be cool, but there's no denying that his brother is Cooler. The main villain of two Dragon Ball Z movies and a recurring face in spin-offs like Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Cooler is one of the most mysterious antagonists in the franchise. Despite the fact that he's related to the most important villain in Dragon Ball, next to nothing is known about it. All that's been confirmed about Cooler is that he's even stronger than Frieza in his final form, and runs his own army independent of King Cold and Frieza.

In a world where Broly is not only canon, but one of Dragon Ball Super's main characters, Cooler has a real chance of being added to the main continuity in the Black Frieza Saga. While the Frost Demon hasn't appeared in the main timeline yet, he's been busy across the Dragon Ball multiverse and remains immensely powerful. At their peak, the strongest versions of Cooler can give Dragon Ball Super's Frieza a serious run for his money and even have their own Golden form.

According to multiple Dragon Ball Z guidebooks, Cooler is actually canon to the original DBZ anime (but not Dragon Ball Z Kai, and by extension Dragon Ball Super). Toei actually considered the first Cooler movie, Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge, to be in continuity with the rest of the series, even being included in an official timeline that placed the film between Future Trunks' arrival and Dr. Gero attacking Papaya Town.

Power-wise, Canon Cooler is only as strong as 100% Frieza was by the end of the Namek Saga. Goku doesn't even need Super Saiyan for most of the battle against Final Form Cooler, implying he might actually be weaker than Frieza. Once Goku taps into Super Saiyan, he man-handles Cooler just as effortlessly as he did Frieza. Unlike Frieza, however, Goku makes sure to kill Cooler for good, blasting him into the sun with a Kamehameha.

By virtue of Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge being canon to Dragon Ball Z, Cooler got to appear alongside the rest of the canon villains in the Super 17 Saga – the only movie villain who gets this honor. Unfortunately for Cooler and the rest of the series' dead villains, everyone who escapes Hell is significantly weaker than the rest of the Z-Fighters.

Cooler's appearance in Dragon BAll GT amounts to nothing more than a blink and you'll miss it cameo. He doesn't fight and is never acknowledged by any of the main characters. Realistically, he was defeated off-screen like the rest of Hell's villains. The most notable detail about Cooler in DBGT is that he has his original design, not his Meta form, confirming that only Revenge of Cooler is canon to DBZ and GT.

Although he may not understand how it could be, the Big Gete Star allowed Cooler to cheat death when Goku blasted him into the sun. Unlike Mecha Frieza who merely got an armored enhancement, Meta-Cooler is almost a different being entirely from his original form. He's just as ruthless and cold, but far more calculating, cunning, and dangerous. Meta-Cooler thinks multiple steps ahead in his battle with Goku and Vegeta, letting them wear themselves down.
