Philips' 65" 4K OLED Roku TV Drops Below $1,000

Philips' 65" 4K OLED Roku TV Drops Below $1,000

OLED TVs are considered the best TVs for gaming. They're usually quite expensive, but Walmart is offering a fantastic deal on one of the only OLED TVs with the excellent Roku smart interface built-in. For a limited time, the 65" Philips 974-Series 4K OLED Roku TV for just $998 with free delivery. It's sold and shipped by Walmart direc. Philips is a newcomer to the OLED Game, but this TV does use an LG OLED panel, so you know it's going to be pretty decent.

The Philips 974-Series TV was released just last year. It's equipped with an LG W-OLED panel similar to the one found in the LG B5. It boasts a true 4K resolution with a native 120Hz refresh rate and HDMI 2.1 inputs, making it an excellent TV for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X console gaming. Although the Philips 974 isn't as expensive as other OLED TVs, it shares most of the advantages of its more expensive siblings, including the near instaneous response time, true black levels, near infinite contrast ratio, and ultra-wide viewing angles. It also has one nice feature that the rest don't have, and that's Roku.

Roku is integrated into the Philips TV. I consider it to be a better smart interface overall compared to Google TV (Sony), Tizen (Samsung), WebOS (LG), or Fire TV (Panasonic). It's easier to use, it looks nicer, it doesn't require you to commit to an ecosystem, and it isn't a resource hog. There's only one other OLED TV that has Roku built-in, and that's Roku's own recently released Pro series model. The Roku Pro has very similar specs to the Philips 974, but it also costs $200 more.

Despite being a current generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2 has lax TV requirements compared to the PS5 or Xbox Series X. When the Switch is connected to its dock and a television, it is only capable of outputting a 4K resolution signal at up to 60 frames per second. It can go up to 120fps if the resolution drops to 1080p, but the data rate required for both these options is pretty much the same, and you would much rather play any game in 4K. That said, the Switch 2 will still benefit greatly from the OLED panel's stellar image quality.
