Of course, it’s impossible to expect perfection from any work of art – and video games are no exception to this. That being said, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t open world games that come very, very close to perfection.
These open world games not only set a new standard, but they completely blew our current standards out of the water. It’s a rare instance where both audiences and critics alike shower the game in constant praise.
We took a look at OpenCritic, our official review aggregating system, and found the top open world games with scores that teeter on perfection; these are games that, despite the odds of probability (as in there is bound to be someone who dislikes the game), earned applause from most, if not all the top critics.
And if you’ve played any of these games, you’d know exactly why they scored so impeccably.
Just a moment of clarity and transparency before continuing: technically, Forza Horizon 5 has a higher OpenCritic score of 92, however, if you were to ask any critic or player who enjoys these games, everyone points to Forza Horizon 6 as the near-perfect one, especially with how it improves upon the previous entry. Since it scored a 91, a technical near-tie, we at DualShockers made the editorial decision to opt for FH6 instead, since it’s taking the community by storm.
When you think of an open world game, you don’t often think of them being a racing game as well, but that’s actually exactly what you get with Forza Horizon 6. You can just casually roam around Japan and soak in the country’s beauty, and if you find some sick races to do in the meantime, even better.
The open world feels more like a massive playground, especially since the game incorporates more platformer and collect-a-thon elements to make the world more dynamic. By the time you’re done with the races, you’re not even done with the game, you’re just going to want to drive around the world as fast as you can.
