Reality Fracture is finally here, so it's time to take a look at which Magic: The Gathering cards from the set are proving to be the most valuable if you're looking to buy them as singles.
MTG card prices are fickle at the best of times, but it's at its worst right as a set enters its launch window. Players desperate to hoard rare variants are willing to pay more, and sellers take advantage of this with inflated prices. So, we expect this list to change considerably over the next few weeks as it's established just how rare some cards are, as well as how playable others are, which is another factor that will impact value.
The reason we've not put this card at the top of the list is that there isn't any hugely reliable data to show that the card is being actively sold and what people are willing to pay. That being said, as a serialized Magic card limited to just 500 copies, there's an incredibly good chance that once some copies start circulating, it will jump up to being the most valuable card in the set.
This list kicks off with Rise of the Deathbringer in the new facet foil treatment, also known as the shattered mirror. This card lets you either draw cards equal to the power of your strongest creature, or give all creatures -3/-3 until the end of the turn.
At instant speed, this is a great spell to keep in your hand and use defensively, but a five-mana cost does somewhat advertise that something is coming to your opponents.
Another facet foil is up next: Craterclaw Colossus, one of the first Echoed Pairs alternatives from the Echoverse we saw during preview season.
This seven-mana mono-red creature is a 5/5 with Haste, and when it enters play, all creatures you control gain Trample and +X/0, where X is the number of artifacts you control. This does not go away at the end of the turn and is in place until Craterclaw Colossus is removed from the battlefield.
The first Japanese fracture foil on this list is Codie, Ravenous Codex, a three-mana 1/4 artifact creature who, whenever you cast a Prepared spell, lets you copy it and select new targets for the copy.
