Nintendo has announced Metroid Ravenous, a new side-scrolling Metroidvania title for Switch 2.
Metroid Ravenous will be coming to Switch 2 on January 28. The game appears to show Samus having to ingest her enemies in some way, saying she has to “feed on” them to survive.
A trailer released for the game is narrated by Samus, as she explains what’s happened to her. “I was attacked by unknown assailants and sustained grave injuries,” she says.
“I don’t know where I am. Getting back to the surface won’t be easy. My chances of getting off this moon are slim at best. I will survive, and I will make it home, even if I have to feed on my enemies to do so. It’s eat or be eaten.”
Two more Metroid amiibo figures will also be released alongside the game on January 28, featuring Samus and a Chozo Statue.
A third amiibo, featuring Samus in a Metroid Suit, will also be available as part of a Special Edition containing a SteelBook and copy of the game.
It’s not yet clear whether this third amiibo will also be available as a standalone purchase, or whether the Special Edition needs to be purchased to obtain it.
Although it wasn’t explicitly stated, it’s likely that Ravenous is developed by MercurySteam, the studio behind 2021’s Metroid Dread. Dread was a Nintendo Switch exclusive set after the events of Metroid Fusion, making it the last chronological game in Metroid’s storyline to date.
