A leaker who claimed that a 3D Super Mario title was launching in 2027 just gained credibility following the reveal of two Nintendo Direct presentations happening on September 8 and 9. Although the Super Mario series remains Nintendo's best-selling franchise by far, the company's iconic mascot has not had a 3D platforming release since 2021's Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.
Though rumors about Nintendo's upcoming projects should be taken with a fine grain of salt, a leak just gained more credibility following word that two Nintendo Directs will air in the days ahead. According to a Reddit post on the matter, a YouTube user named malo932 stated on September 1 in the comments of a Nintendo Forecast video that Zelda and Nintendo would have a "double appointment" in the first full week of September. The leaker previously stated that a 3D Super Mario title would launch in 2027, though the precise timing remained elusive. Previously, malo932 also claimed that remakes of both Star Fox and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time would arrive in 2026, which were subsequently proven true. As of this writing, Nintendo has not yet revealed its future game release plans.
