Doctor Who Infinity, a story-driven, episodic match-three puzzle game, was delisted in 2022 after Tiny Rebel Games' license with the BBC expired. However, if you missed out on what DWM called the "best Doctor Who stories ever told in a video game," you can grab it right now on the Humble Bundle store for just $12.
The cast is stacked with talent from the TV series, including Michelle Gomez as Missy, Ingrid Oliver as Petronella Osgood, Katy Manning as Jo Grant, and Richard Franklin as Mike Yates. It also features The Last of Us and Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey as original character Freya.
"Gameplay changes from level to level with increasing complexity while the recognizable detachable tile mechanic allows us to stay accessible to gamers of all levels of experience," the description reads. In Infinity, characters like the Daleks, Missy, Jo Grant, and the Doctor literally appear on the board, alongside opponents like robots, bombs, firewalls, and time vortexes.
"This game is aimed at the adult Doctor Who fan, comfortable with mature, dramatic themes in a series of all new Doctor Who adventures, brought to you by well-known writers, artists, and actors in the extended Doctor universe."
Infinity features five stories in total: The Orphans of the Polyoptra, which sees the 3rd Doctor and Jo Grant caught up in World War 2 before traveling back to 1842; The Horror of Flat Holm, where the 4th Doctor, Sergeant Benton, and Captain Mike Yates investigate a mysterious incident involving the Cybermen, while Osgood and Kate Stewart deal with its consequences in the present; The Lady of the Lake, as the 10th Doctor and Rose face an alien war in a small Welsh village; The Silent Streets of Barry Island, following the 11th Doctor, Amy, and Rory as they investigate a plague of gruesome deaths and disappearances; and finally The Dalek Invasion of Time, in which the 12th Doctor, Missy, Bill, and Nardole face a new Dalek hybrid created "on the edge of the Time War."
However, while Doctor Who Magazine describes these as the "best Doctor Who stories ever told in a video game" (there's not exactly much competition, even if I love the Adventure titles), user reviews paint a more divisive picture. Before being delisted, Infinity landed a 'Mixed' review score, as players complained of "tediously repetitive" gameplay and "a mere 30 minutes of story." Even the positive reviews warn that the game is "quite boring," though they do reiterate that "the actual stories are great."
Keys are available for the base game, individual episodes, or the complete edition here to redeem on Steam. And to verify that these actually work, I bought a copy myself.
