The legendary Fourth Hokage of Konoha, Minato Namikaze, was introduced to us in Naruto Chapter 1, which was released on September 21, 1999, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #43. Since then, Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the Naruto series, has slowly built up the legend surrounding this figure.
Minato Namikaze's exploits were shown properly to us in Kakashi's flashback and later down the line, in the Fourth Great Ninja War. While Minato Namikaze has already died, Konoha has a new successor who is just like him, both in terms of power and potential. Naruto Uzumaki was the exact opposite of his father, but his son, Boruto Uzumaki, is just like Minato and has even started copying his abilities. Boruto might not be as big a genius as the Fourth Hokage, but as things stand, he is the closest Konoha has to the legendary Namikaze. With Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #37 set to resume serialization in V-Jump on September 17, 2026, the importance of Minato Namikaze's technique is going to be highlighted once again through the character of Boruto Uzumaki.
The similarities between Boruto Uzumaki and Minato Namikaze were clear to see from the very beginning of the Boruto series. In Boruto Chapter 1, which was released on May 9, 2016, it was clearly stated to us that Boruto Uzumaki was unlike his father Naruto. Naruto was not a genius when he was born and was often labeled as a clumsy ninja with no talent to become a shinobi, yet, against all odds, he became the Seventh Hokage. Naruto's story was that of an underdog, but Boruto's story is the complete opposite. Boruto Uzumaki is stated to be a genius, the likes of which are hard to come by. In that sense, Boruto is more similar to his grandfather Minato Namikaze than to Naruto Uzumaki.

The connection between the two was solidified even further in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4, which was released officially on November 19, 2023, in V-Jump Issue #1. In this chapter, it was officially stated to us that Boruto Uzumaki had taken a leaf from Minato's book and decided to recreate the powers of the legendary Flying Raijin technique. Minato was known as the Yellow Flash specifically for his speed. Now, Boruto Uzumaki aims to become the new fastest shinobi in the world, and he has done so by creating his own version of the Flying Thunder God. This technique was first shown to us moments before the birth of the Shinju. Later down the line, in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #16, which was officially released in V-Jump Issue #1 on November 19, 2024, this ability was properly explained to us.
