Rocket League is bringing '1v1 me Rust' back in spirit. Launching alongside Season 24 today is the 'Honor Duel' mode, in which you can hash it out one-on-one in a post-match game, with other players being given the opportunity to spectate.
"Got beef? Challenge another player from your match to a 1v1," the team announced in a Steam blog post. "If they accept, when the current match finishes, you'll both drop straight into a duel of the same mode. Any other players in the match will have the option to spectate.
"Once an Honor Duel is accepted, all other players will be invited to spectate the match," today's update explains. "The challenger and defender will automatically be moved into the Honor Duel when the current match is finished, and spectators can accept the notification in the Social Menu to see the Duel."
Speaking as someone who is god-awful at Rocket League, the idea of losing a match and then losing a 1v1 while everyone watches sounds like a torturous humiliation ritual that would make me uninstall the game and never look back, but it at least sounds healthier than hurling abuse at each other through DMs.
Though it's not just about squashing beef.
"Eight creators are putting their names on the line this season," the blog post continues. "Freestyle pioneer JZR and ApparentlyJack headline the roster alongside Tenacity, Forky, and almost, with Firewall154 repping Brazil, Twisty flying the flag for the Netherlands, and Crnovy bringing the MENA community along for the ride. Equip the title of whoever you're backing, win Honor Duels, and every point you earn pushes them up the board toward the showmatch in London."
Also arriving in the Season 24 update is the Black Market Trade-In, in which you can trade three duplicate Black Market items to get "a wholly new item or painted version you've yet to collect"; the MVP Focused Podium, an end-of-match celebration highlighting the most valuable player with their "goal explosion in the open net behind the team"; a Custom Scoreboard, allowing you to pick four trackable stats per mode; updated KBM controls with "modernized key bindings and additional settings"; and new Top 100 ranked rewards.
