Black Clover is a world-renowned shonen manga by Yuki Tabata, published in both Weekly Shonen Jump and Jump GIGA. The series has found great success despite the long hiatuses that plagued the manga and anime. After a sustained run of around a decade, Black Clover officially reached its end on May 1, 2026. However, there are other projects, including manga that Black Clover gave birth to, that some fans may be unaware of.
In 2020, the Black Clover Quartet Knights spin-off series, written by Yumiya Tashiro and supervised by Yuki Tabata, ended. Instead of Asta, this story focuses largely on Yami. For the occasion of Black Clover's conclusion, this spin-off has now made a brief return as Yumiya Tashiro, the creator, published a new illustration featuring younger Yami and Asta. This makes us hopeful for the future of the spin-off series. With the successful anime of Black Clover set to return on October 3, 2026, Quartet Knights could also get an anime adaptation.
Black Clover has cemented itself as a hit for the popular shonen magazine, Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump. The series experienced a great high of popularity in the late 2010s and early 2020s, so much so that it eventually got its own spinoff series. Not every manga gets a spinoff, but those that are popular enough do usually have a couple to expand the scope even further. Out of the few spin-off series that Black Clover got, Black Clover: Quartet Knights by author Yumiya Tashiro certainly stood out as a highlight. While this spin-off is written by a different author, it is still supervised by Yuki Tabata, meaning that some of the elements and story present in the spin-off are canon to his own ideas pertaining to the world of Black Clover.
Black Clover: Quartet Knights had quite a successful run. While the spin-off initially kicked off on October 7, 2018, with the release of its first chapter on Shonen Jump+, it eventually ended about two years later on April 12, 2020. Its final volume marked its proper conclusion and was released on October 2, 2020. All in all, this spinoff series was collected into 6 volumes and spanned over 42 chapters in total. The story of Quartet Knight might have ended, but recently, its creator, Yumiya Tashiro, responsible for the story and art of the spinoff, made a brief return. This return was observed on the social media platform X on August 14, 2026. With this return on his X Platform (@hot_monkey), he posted a new illustration in his iconic style for the spinoff series.
In this new illustration, Yumiya Tashiro highlighted the focus of his manga: a younger Yami, and by his side, Asta as well, as the protagonist of the original story. He also drops a brief message congratulating Yuki Tabata for concluding his manga, a tough accomplishment, especially for someone like Tabata who has been dealing with many health issues. Clearly, Yumiya Tashiro cares deeply for the Black Clover series, and he feels great pride in the spin-off he created.
“Finally, Black Clover has concluded!
Thank you so much for the hot battle fantasy all the way to the end!!!
Getting to draw the spin-off is a treasure for life for me!!
