It’s not even been a week since Grand Theft Auto 6’s extended look, but one talented fan has already recreated its Wanted system in GTA 5.
Although there are already plenty of people crying out that GTA 6 looks like “just another GTA” (as if that’s a bad thing), series fans will know that’s not really the case. From what we saw in the Extended Look, GTA 6 is taking the series in a more realistic and detailed direction, clearly inspired by how involved Red Dead Redemption 2 was.
One of the biggest changes that GTA 6 is making to the series’ formula is with its new Wanted system. Police will now recognise Jason and Lucia based on their clothing, vehicle, and even which character committed a crime, making it much more realistic and harder to cheese. If you want to get used to the new system before GTA 6 releases, someone has already recreated it in GTA 5.
As pointed out by GTA Boom, the mod in question comes from 5mods creator andre500, who started putting it together based on what was shown in Cyberleek’s leaked gameplay footage. The mod makes GTA 5’s Wanted system work similarly to GTA 6, with the police remembering the player’s face, clothing, and vehicle.
After receiving Wanted stars, the police will keep searching based on those conditions, with a portion of the map being marked with a red circle to show where the player will still be recognised and the chase restarted. To get around that, the player needs to switch vehicles, change clothes, or wait out the facial recognition that can take up to an in-game week depending on how Wanted they are.
Just like in GTA 6, the Wanted system is tied to each character, meaning Franklin can still roam around if Trevor gets a five-star level.
