Xbox executives love nothing more than posting on social media, so it was only a matter of time before one of the C-suite responded to Tom Warren’s article.
Reacting to The Verge’s (paywalled) claim that GTA 6 pre-orders are heavily skewed towards the PS5, CSO Matthew Ball said the Redmond firm is “very happy” with how the title is performing on its platform.
“The title is breaking records for Xbox, we expect even more records will be broken throughout the fall, and our internal analysis shows our share of pre-orders to be matching our share of the console market.”
It’ll be interesting to see if we ever get any receipts on this, but right now only Rockstar and the two platform holders will know which way the wind is blowing.

A new report from The Verge (paywalled) digs into the larger dramas occurring at Xbox of late, including its massive layoffs and restructuring. (I wrote a little bit about how the platform feels like it’s being swallowed by Activision and Bethesda through here.)
But there’s one interesting tidbit in the article that jumped out to me: “Sources at Xbox tell me that GTA 6 pre-orders are heavily skewed toward PS5, ringing yet more alarm bells about the platform.”
