New Official Skyrim Release Confirmed for September 9

Skyrim is officially getting a new surprise collaboration on September 9, when IKEA furniture is coming to the game. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim came out all the way back in 2011, and while fans are eagerly waiting for the next chapter in the series, the now 15-year-old title is still holding up well with mods, special editions, ports, and continued support. Skyrim even exists as a board game and spawned a culinary book, which shows the extent of the game's popularity even outside the world of video games.

The game is still actively supported to the point that Skyrim got a new update on August 27, almost 15 years since it first came out. Not only that, but fans are also still releasing mods and improvements for the game, with a recent release adding realistic snow to the landscape that reacts to the player's movements and actions. For a game set in one of the northernmost regions in Tamriel, this can be a massive improvement for immersion. While not as immersive, considering its real-world counterpart, Skyrim is now seemingly getting IKEA furniture.

IKEA Ireland shared a short teaser trailer for an upcoming crossover with Skyrim, showing abandoned weapons and armor pieces on a snowy cliff with a piece of furniture seemingly identical to IKEA's iconic KALLAX shelving unit on top. The video was shared on all social media with the caption "A Creation coming to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim," with the September 9 release date. For those who want to turn every player home in Skyrim into a modern-looking cozy shelter, this upcoming collab may be just perfect. It's worth noting that this is part of the Creation program, meaning it could be a paid in-game release. What exactly the collaboration entails has not been shared at the time of writing.

Depending on the scope of the collaboration, Skyrim may be getting one new piece of furniture, a few, or maybe even more. This may also affect the final price of the release, should it be paid. Some of the best Skyrim Creation mods can completely change the game, add entirely new areas and quests, or alter gameplay in other significant ways. In this case, the IKEA crossover is likely to be limited to pieces of furniture that fans can place in their homes, but this doesn't mean that there can't be something more whimsical to it, such as IKEA plushies. In fact, an existing Skyrim mod adds IKEA's Blahaj shark plush to the game, and it's quite popular, too.

Recently, IKEA and Xbox partnered for a new gaming collection, and with Bethesda being part of the company, it makes sense to turn things around and have an in-game release as well. The Swedish giant is no stranger to video game collaborations as a whole, and in fact, IKEA crossed over with Pokemon Pokopia with a dedicated Cloud Island.

As for Bethesda's RPG, Skyrim got a Special Edition update recently to improve mods and Creations, so this collab comes at the right time. What exactly it will be is up in the air, but fans can circle September 9 on their calendars.
