PS5 Users Officially Have Until September 6 to Check Out Popular EA Game for Free

PS5 users can play a popular video game at no cost until September 6, and the best part is that there's no real strings attached. Oftentimes, PS5 requires gamers to have some version of PS Plus (Essential, Extra, or Premium) to access "free games" with that membership, but that's not the case here.

That's not to say PS Plus isn't worth its asking price though. Just recently, Sony confirmed a few games coming to the service over the next few months, and really, this initial list is just the tip of the iceberg. None of these games have confirmed dates for the service quite yet, but fans can expect more PS Plus games coming soon in the form of Mycopunk on the Extra tier and Dino Crisis 2, Mega Man X Command Mission, and Ratchet & Clank on the Premium tier.

Until September 6, PS5 owners are able to play through the entirety of EA Sports College Football 27 with no limits on acces. Players can access every game mode in EA Sports College Football 27, from Dynasty Blueprint and Road to Glory to Mascot Mashup, with all progression transferring to the full game should someone decide to purchase it later. There is no limit to what players can do in the game, save for what time is afforded them, and no PS Plus or EA Play subscription is required to play the football game. NFL and College Football video games always top sales charts and popularity contests, so this is a good time to see if the new game (after recent updates) is worth playing.

For those curious (and perhaps unaware), this is to support National College Colors Day. Celebrated on the Friday before Labor Day ever year, it marks the unofficial kickoff of the College Football season. The fan holiday encourages college students, alumni, faculty, and fans to show their school spirit by wearing their college or university’s colors, and so it also makes sense to represent that in game—even those teams that are not among the best teams in EA Sports College Football 27. Overall, it has become a popular tradition across campuses and social media, with people wearing team apparel, sharing photos, and supporting their favorite college programs, and that's not changing this year.

Because EA Sports College Football 27 is the first franchise game to release on Steam, it's uncertain why this promotion does not apply there, but does to PS5. It also applies to Xbox with EA Sports College Football 27 included in its Xbox Free Play Days Promotion, so it's surprisingly not included as part of Steam's Free Weekend promotion...despite being a Free Weekend promotion.

Anyone looking for free games to play this weekend, though, it's also worth mentioning that Steam's Free Weekend promotion currently has two games available for free through September 7 and September 10. Civ 7 is free to play on Steam right now, through September 7 given how long these games can take, and multiplayer social deduction game First Class Trouble also joins it through September 7. In other words, plenty to do this weekend whether that's football or gaming (or both).
