There wasn't really any chance Grand Theft Auto 6 wasn't going to be a big download. Thanks to some new information, though, we now have a hard number.
PlayStation Game Size, which tracks PS Store game releases by poking through its backend, has revealed that GTA 6 has a chonky 210GB download size. While the actual space it's going to occupy on your console's SSD may be smaller, everyone will have to download over 200GB to play Rockstar's latest.
It's unclear whether GTA 6 is going to require a day one patch on top, or if it's already included in the 210GB. Given the interest in the game, the same PS Store sleuths will no doubt return to update us if the file size changes.
GTA 6 is expected to be one of the most dense games ever in sheer content. It has a highly-detailed, massive open-world map featuring a big number of side activities beyond what most contemporary games offer. The cinematic, hours-long story is the other element that contributes to that massive file size.
More broadly, while 210GB is a lot, it's not that much more than some of the biggest games on PS5. Call of Duty, for instance, is famous for its gargantuan file sizes when you have multiple modes installed - though in that case, at least, you're able to selectively uninstall the parts you don't play. This might prove tricky for GTA 6 if / when GTA Online arrives, as most of that is built on single-player content, the same map and so on and may not be easy to separate.
Not too long left now. GTA 6 arrives 19th November on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-loading begins 12th November, and hopefully that's enough time for everyone to finish that download.
