Remembering the reveal trailers for the individual Gears of War games, the first four games were distinct in their style with soft, contemplative soundscapes that clashed against the oppressive violence of the Locust invasion. Of course, the original Gears of War's Mad World reveal is the most culturally impactful, showing rather than telling with atmosphere that rarely hit the same height in the finished product. The 'Tomorrow' trailer for Gears of War 4 is my favorite of the many that have been made over the last two decades.
As the camera transitions to what's happening above them, the Delta-One COG Infantry Squad fights desperately against the Horde's attempt at a full-scale extinction event. The shots are devastating, fear-inducing, and gradually build to showcasing the unbearable toll the disaster has on citizens and their families.
