Marvel Rivals was always going to be a difficult game to balance. By launching with an absurd starting roster and getting two new characters per season (until recently), there are so many heroes to keep track of. However, one of the hardest to get right has actually been in the game since day one: Peni Parker.
This tank was a must-have on every team for so long. Whether because she had great team-ups or just because no one seems to be capable of shooting her nest, Peni dominated in competitive play. Now, it looks like this reign of terror is set to continue, because her win rate is still ridiculously high after being nerfed (and then slightly buffed).
Rivals Tracker, which updates more regularly than the official tracker, puts Peni's competitive win rate at 67.05%. She has a clear lead, with Ultron in second place with a win rate of 57.77%. First and second place having a gap of almost 10% really does call Marvel Rivals' balancing into question, and makes it clear that Peni is still scooping up wins.
This is actually a bigger lead than she had last season, where she had a win rate of 59.40%, only slightly better than Mantis' 59.18%.
Peni's nerfs were rolled out in season 9.5. The biggest change was to her Cyber-Web Snare, which no longer stuns enemies. This would have come as a huge relief to those who main dive characters like Spider-Man and Black Panther, since this was a great counter against them. Peni also took a hit to her health - certainly not ideal for a tank.
To make up for this, we did actually get some buffs at the start of the current season. She can fire quicker now, and she doesn't lose speed when she's shooting. With that said, NetEase may feel the need to take these back, or at least reduce these perks, in the mid-season, given this huge win-rate spike.
On the other end of the spectrum, the bottom three characters across all compeititve ranks are Squirrel Girl, Phoenix, and Cyclops. It remains to be seen if they get some buffs to try and bump up their figures.
