Vincent D'Onofrio Hits Back At God Of War Laufey Boycott Attempt

Santa Monica revealed its next game, God of War Laufey, will star Faye, Kratos’s late wife, as she fights gods on her journey through the afterlife. Like clockwork, the usual suspects piped up, upset that a triple-A game dare star a woman that they’re not attracted to.

Those complaints resurfaced this week as PlayStation opened pre-orders for Laufey ahead of its release on February 16, 2026. Those same Laufey detractors seem to have a problem with the way Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Faye, will look in the game, with someone who goes by Geralt of Goonia specifically highlighting the new armor sets shown off as the reason why Santa Monica has “chosen feminism over jobs”, whatever that might mean.

Unfortunately for this Geralt variant, Vincent D’Onofrio saw their post. D’Onofrio is best known for playing Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in Daredevil, and now Daredevil: Born Again. That means he has worked closely with Woll, who plays Karen Page on the show, and he hasn't taken kindly to someone criticizing the way she looks.

“Deborah is beautiful and extremely talented. She is as smart as a whip and a complete nerd,” D’Onofrio replied, adding that she is also kind and a good friend, hence him coming to her defense. The Kingpin actor adds that he’s a God of War fan and can’t wait to play as Faye in Laufey with his son in the post that currently has 24 times the amount of likes as the post it’s replying to.

For reasons that remain unclear, the author of the original post appears to think this is a check in the win column for them. In a follow-up, they’ve shared a short AI-generated clip that features the Geralt from their profile picture gently punching D’Onofrio as Kingpin in a boxing match and knocking him to the mat. The post asks, “Is this accurate?” The numbers alone on the original post and D’Onofrio’s reply would imply no, it’s not.

Whether Woll is aware of the latest attempts to boycott her God of War game or not, those attempts, thankfully, won’t affect her. The Faye actor was previously asked how she feels about some of the louder voices from a vocal minority that don’t like how she looks in Laufey, or don’t believe she should be the lead in a God of War game at all, confirming that she is “totally unbothered” by it all.

Woll also revealed she has known about Santa Monica’s plans for Laufey for close to a decade, around the time the first God of War game in the Norse saga was released in 2018. The game is confirmed to run parallel to the events of that game and its sequel, God of War Ragnarok.
