It looks like Armed Fantasia: To the End of the Wilderness is all but dead, as publisher 505 Games, and parent company Digital Bros, have officially pulled the plug.
The news comes via the latter's latest financial report, which reads: "The Group decided to discontinue the development of some video games, Directorate: Novitiate, Armed Fantasia, and the sequel to the Free to Play game Battle Island, after multiple attempts to revise their gameplay."
In other words, development wasn't going well.
And this is four years on from Armed Fantasia being announced through Kickstarter, where it was basically promised as a spiritual successor to the classic Japanese RPG series, Wild Arms. It was even being spearheaded by former Wild Arms creatives.
The project was snapped up by 505 Games a little later, but it clearly never made the necessary amount of progress.
In an interview from 2022, former Wild Arms designer Akifumi Kaneko revealed that Armed Fantasia had been pitched to Sony multiple times — but the platform holder simply wasn't interested in publishing.
The aforementioned Kickstarter campaign saw a double-header of Armed Fantasia and another RPG called Penny Blood raise around $2.5 million. The campaign smashed its original funding goal of $750,000 in a single day.
As of right now, no updates have been given with regards to the Kickstarter campaign; those who backed the project are currently being left in the dark.
