Almost five years to the day since we were shown the first teaser for Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac’s first Marvel game without a webslinger is less than a week away. Releasing next week, on September 15, and if you want to extend your Wolverine fandom beyond the game alone, you’ll be able to place a pre-order for the PS5 exclusive hero’s Hot Toys figure on the same day.
The first images and details for the Hot Toys figure have been shared online ahead of pre-orders going live, and it's pretty special. It’s a 1:6 scale figure that puts the protagonist in his Battle Reborn suit. The classic black and yellow, and it even has marks throughout the design to represent damage Logan has sustained while fighting enemies.
The figure also comes with five sets of claws so you can switch up Wolverine’s look. You’ve got the standard adamantium, bone claws, charred bone claws, crimson, and diamond. There are also slashing effects you can add to the ends of the claws to make Wolverine look like he has leaped out of a comic book frame and onto your shelf.
The figure also includes other interchangeable parts that let you switch up Wolverine’s look. Different sets of gloves, you can swap out Wolverine’s eyes, and there are two lower faceplates that let you alter the X-Man’s mood. One gives Wolverine a regular mouth, while the other fires him up and makes the figure look angry, which is far more fitting for Logan.
Pre-orders for the figure won’t be available until the game releases on September 15, and it looks like it’s going to cost $285. Pricey, but actually a lot less than most Hot Toys figures. Some tend to be 1:4 scale, driving up the price to as much as three times that amount. That said, if you do have more to spend on a Wolverine figure, there is a deluxe option.
The deluxe option is going to be a hard one to turn down if you do plan on buying one of these. It’s more than just a slightly bigger version with more parts. It’s an entirely different design. Instead of having Wolverine standing alone, it captures the hero in the clutches of Omega Red, one of the first iconic X-Men villains you face off against in the upcoming Insomniac game.
In the diorama, Omega Red is bursting up through rocks and has his long robotic arms wrapped around Wolverine. It doesn’t seem to be doing the villain much good, as Wolverine still has his claws out and looks like he’s about to get the better of his foe. The deluxe edition appears to include all of the same parts as the standard figure, although how much more it will cost is unclear.
The figures won’t ship until July 2027 at the earliest, so you’re going to be waiting a while for them.
