HoYoverse, the maker of vibrant anime gacha games like Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero, has announced a “realistic fantasy action” experience powered by Unreal Engine 5.
The press release says the title’s been inspired by “diverse mythologies” and will emphasise “co-op multiplayer gameplay”. It looks a lot like Monster Hunter to me.
“Players will step into a world where divine authority has crumbled, and order has collapsed, taking on the role of a ‘Weaver’. Forge bonds with powerful companions, stand together against earth-shattering foes, seize whatever divinity remains, and ultimately restore order to this world.”
There’s debate about whether this will be another free-to-play foray from the Chinese studio, or a premium full-price paid game. No further details have been announced at this stage.
There’s also no word on whether this release on the PS5 or not, but given the popularity of Monster Hunter within Sony’s ecosystem, I strongly suspect it will.
For my personal tastes, this doesn’t strike me quite like a Honkai: Star Rail does, but I’m definitely fascinated to see the studio’s approach here. I’ll be following this closely for more news.
