I hadn't worked with Asetek Racing prior to May of this year, but since then, I've steadily grown more and more impressed with both their line of sim racing products, as well as their team and company in general. This is a sim rig company that has the gear to appeal to the highest end consumers, as well as one that's continued to make conscious decisions to cater to those with a small budget or that simply might not have the time investment to dive in as hard into the medium as others.
Case in point is their Initium line of products, which can get you out the door for around $1,000 with a fantastic, fully functional sim rig to add to your home gaming setup. I myself have an Initium rig, and it's allowed me to finally be a part of the sim racing community in a way I didn't really think was ever going to be possible for me.
All of this leads into why I was once again so keen to check in with the Asetek team while I was in Germany for gamescom 2026. While I chatted with the team at the booth, I also got to go hands-on with several new products and quality of life improvements that the team is rolling out this fall. This time around, we'll be talking about a range of exciting new updates from Asetek, including new developments geared towards the lower tier of their product line, as well as some new gear and implementations for the higher end.
First, let's discuss the brand-new Virtual Button Box update that Asetek has rolled out for users, which is actually 100% free, already available, and simply requires an update to their Race Hub software in order to start using. The Virtual Button box uses your wheel's touchscreen in order to populate six entirely customizable additional buttons, which is a very cool QoL improvement to the hardware.
Now, with the swipe of a finger, you can bring up these six touchscreen buttons, which pop up at the specific size and locations you've chosen in Race Hub. There's a huge number of Virtual Button Box combinations you can build for yourself, but one awesome use case I was shown is setting the buttons to control all of your pit lane choices. For example, you can map your Virtual Button Box to allow you to quickly choose the amount of fuel you want to add during a pit stop, as well as which tire compound you want to leave the pits on.
Since the Virtual Button Box requires a touchscreen to actually use, that means it's compatible with the Asetek Forte and Invicta lines of wheels, but not the Initium.
It can get as broad or as granular as you like with your button selections, and having these options a touchscreen away is a very smooth process compared to fumbling around with a mouse or even toggling knobs or buttons on your wheel itself in some cases.
