It’s been a long time since we’ve had a new limited job in Final Fantasy XIV. First introduced all the way back in Stormblood. That’s right. It has been over seven years since Blue Mage was first introduced, and it almost feels like Square Enix put it on the back burner. Players were expecting more Blue Mage content in Dawntrail, but that was pushed into Evercold due to a focus on a new limited job: Beastmaster.
With the release of the final major story update for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, we see the release of the long-awaited Beastmaster limited job, a class that can tame various familiar monsters out in the world. But where exactly do you start your adventures in capturing all the monsters?
Unfortunately, most newer players won’t be able to immediately unlock Beastmaster and add it to their collection of jobs, as limited as it is. Instead, you will need to make it to at least level 50 on any standard job before taking on the quest.
On top of that, you will need to have completed the A Realm Reborn main story. You won’t need to do the post-release content (thankfully, as that content takes forever), but you will need to have completed the main story quest, “The Ultimate Weapon.”
Now that you’re level 50 and have completed the A Realm Reborn questline, the next goal is to actually pick up the quest to start the long storyline with J’yhuh Tia and his tutelage in showing you how to tame beasts.
In order to do this, you will need to head to New Gridania. Here, you will find a new quest (unless you haven’t cleared out all the side quests in the area, then it will make it difficult to spot it) located at the Airship Landing.
If you’re a veteran of FFXIV, this is a location you likely haven’t been to too often unless your preferred inn is located in New Gridania. This is because it’s a little less convenient than the other cities.
Regardless, there will be a new Exited Adventurer found next to the ramp down to the airships (X:11.8 Y: 13.6). Talking to him will reveal the new quest, “Strangers in the Wood,” which will initially unlock the Beastmaster limited job.
