Arguably Monster Hunter Wilds' most egregious microtransaction is being retired, and, soon, you'll be able to edit your hunters and cat-friend Palicos whenever you like, as many times as you like.
Publisher Capcom waved goodbye to the divisive Edit Vouchers earlier today. Starting from 3 December, the vouchers will be pulled from all digital storefront and players will instead get 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers for free.
Those vouchers should tide you over until the release of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance sometime next year, at which point "all players will be able to re-edit the appearance of their hunter and Palico as many times as they like, free of charge and without the need for a Character Edit Voucher." Even if you're not planning on picking up the Ascendance expansion, you'll still be able to give your characters a makeover ad nauseum, I should add.
Mildly whelming news for anyone who's already spent real-world money on rejigging your big beast battlers: you won't be refunded, but Capcom will give you an in-game pendant set "as a token of our appreciation." You can claim the Special Thank-You Pendant Set, which includes the Heavenly Hog and Beelzeboar pendants, starting from 3 December, as well. Gosh, this series has the best monster names.
"The pendants listed above may become available separately at a later date," Capcom wrote in its announcement.
While Monster Hunter Wilds came out the gate swinging, its stamina has taken quite a big hit in the year since - thanks largely to the game's questionable PC performance.
The game regularly gets outsold by its older siblings, though Capcom is taking measures to close the gap between Wilds and World, to its credit. The publisher recently hoped a price drop, a generous demo and next year's expansion could help Wilds catch up to the monstrous hits that came before it. Monster Hunter Wilds' Switch 2 port should also help matters come December, alongside the welcome quality-of-life updates we've been receiving as of late.
