Ubisoft forgot to include the actual game in the Steam release of Heroes of Might and Magic 3, with players who bought it finding a tiny 23.49 KB file instead.
During Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, Ubisoft announced the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Remake, and to celebrate, they shadow-dropped the original 1999 turn-based strategy game on Steam for $10.
However, those who bought it quickly realized that there was no actual game included. Instead of the game itself, it was a 23.49 KB file that gave a “Dummy executable” error message when launched.
As spotted by PC Gamer, the game was met with Mostly Negative Steam reviews, with players complaining they couldn’t actually play the game they bought.
On August 26, the developers apologized for the issue and confirmed the game was now included in Steam purchases.
“We investigated the issue and can confirm it has now been resolved,” they said on X/Twitter. “We appreciate the community’s patience and reports while we worked on a fix and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Players reported that roughly 11 hours after the release, a 770MB update added the proper game files, and it’s all working as it should, with the Steam reviews now at “Mixed.”
