Gojo Satoru is one of the most important characters to have been introduced in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. He made his debut in the second chapter of the series, released on March 12, 2018, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 15. Since then, Gojo's influence over the story has increased dramatically, but this particular character reached his end in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 236, released officially on September 25, 2023, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 43. In this chapter, his battle against Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, concluded, and it resulted in his loss.
As Gojo Satoru died, most fans believed that his legacy met a tragic end as well. However, towards the end of the series, it was officially confirmed that Yuji Itadori had vowed to carry on his work. Now, in the new release of Jujutsu Kaisen, that is, the sequel story called Modulo, Yuji Itadori is shown carrying Gojo's legacy even further. This work will officially continue for at least 300 more years as the world created by Gege Akutami changes forever.
Gojo Satoru met his end in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 236, but he continued to affect the plot directly in many ways even after his death. In Jujutsu Kaisen's last chapter, that is, chapter 271, released officially on September 30, 2024, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 44, Gojo Satoru was shown in a flashback with Yuji. In this flashback, Gojo stated that the world had had enough of him already and asked Yuji to find a different kind of strength than his own. Most importantly, Gojo entrusted his own dream to Yuji and the other generation sorcerers and asked them to carry on his work.
"Haven't we had enough of Gojo Satoru already? Seek out a different kind of strength than mine. I expect great things from you, Yuji!" — Gojo Satoru entrusts the future to Yuji Itadori, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #271
This new work can be seen quite clearly in the new Jujutsu Kaisen series, titled Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, which was written by Gege Akutami himself and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki. In this story, Yuji Itadori was shown to have taken over the role of the new strongest. While he struggled with several identity issues at the beginning, towards the end, he finally understood what Gojo meant and decided to carry on his legacy himself.
“I was scared. I believed I shouldn't have interfered with the current generation. I should've gotten all shriveled up and kicked the bucket by now. But when you stop looking at today, looking at the past or the future becomes impossible. I should've done this with my own power. But I won't disregard my purpose any longer. There's something I need to do. And to do that, I need your help, Kugisaki!” — Yuji takes on Gojo's Role, JJK Modulo Chapter #25
In the latest release of Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, Yuji Itadori decided to raise the next generation of sorcerers, just as Gojo Satoru did at one point in the original series. After the removal of Cursed Energy from Japanese society entirely and the elimination of cursed spirits, Yuji's goal is to find the next Heavenly Restriction users and then equip them with powerful cursed tools. Yuji is also going to train these powerful sorcerers and then establish a new force within Japan that can deal with cursed spirits as well as protect the country when he eventually passes away.
“As for the people with a Heavenly Restriction from here on out, we'll have to track them down, and we'll thoroughly keep tabs on their family line. We'll also need to preserve the cursed tools we have and mass-produce them." — Yuji explains his plan after Cursed Energy Removal, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #25
