The leaks were accurate: we're getting a new Nintendo Switch 2 model. The new Switch 2 is themed around The Legend of Zelda to mark the 40th anniversary of the series.
We even got a release date for the new model. The Zelda-themed Switch 2 and the accompanying Pro Controller will be available on October 29, 2026. This puts it ahead of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, which we now know is launching on November 5.
This will also be the first unique Switch 2 model to be released after the console's launch last year. It comes during a strange console generation, which has seen continuous price increases, rather than any sign that prices might go down as the Switch 2's lifecycle continues. On the one hand, this might mean that there are still a lot of Nintendo fans who are yet to make the leap to the next generation, and could be tempted by this new model - if they're willing to put the money down on it.
We're still waiting to see how much this new Switch 2 will set us back, but given the current state of the market, I'm bracing myself for an eye-watering amount of money. Hopefully it won't be too much of an increase over the usual model, given that it doesn't appear to come pre-loaded with any Zelda games, but it's a unique design for an already expensive bit of kit, so we could be in for a nasty shock.
If you already have a Switch 2 but still want to get it on this, then the Pro Controller will likely be up your alley. If you're not interested in that either, we're also told that a Zelda-themed carry case will be available. Again, we're still waiting to hear how much all of this costs, but with the release date being a little over a month away, we shouldn't be left waiting too long.
