Last week I had the honour of attending the Sega Summer Showcase over in Los Angeles. Here, Sega promised to show off a bunch of exciting upcoming games for us enthusiastic journalists to get our hands on. And yes, they certainly delivered!
What followed was an action-packed day where I met some of the talented minds behind the creative process and, of course, played a lot of games. And while these games were just demos, or slices of what was to come, they showed a huge breadth of content and a lot of variety.
By the time the showcase finished, the staff basically had to rip me away from the console and chuck me out; I was that engrossed. So just what was on offer at the Showcase? Well, let’s take a look.
It’s 10 am, and I’m still rubbing away the sleep from my eyes. Time for a horror game! I know it sounded like a weird choice, but honestly, it was the one I was most immediately drawn to.
I hadn’t actually played the first Alien Isolation, but I’d heard really good things about it. So when I sat down and heard this one was improving on the original in just about every way, I was both excited and a little nervous!
The first Alien Isolation took place entirely within the confines of the ship; however, this one is going to focus more heavily on the surface of the planet itself, meaning you’re going to have to run through forests while avoiding the Xenomorph, which sounds pretty terrifying.
While the demo did take place within a crashed ship, there was a really nice starting scene, where you trudge through the pouring rain, down tricky cliff sides towards the crash site, which, as I assume, is a little taste of what we’ll be getting later on.
